The aim of the ewz cadastre is to keep people safe and prevent damage to the ewz infrastructure. For this reason, it is mandatory before the start of every construction, both on privately or publicly owned land, to refer to the overview of the ewz infrastructure (transmission line cadastre); see the Construction Industry Health and Safety Ordinance (CIHSO) (in German).
Before ordering the transmission line cadastre, you must familiarise yourself with the ‘Regulations for Construction and Excavation Work for Electricity and Telecom or Thermal Installations’. This prevents personal injury and property damage, as all ewz system components and pipes are generally live and/or subject to water pressure, mechanical tension and high temperatures.
The transmission line cadastre includes the location of the underground transmission lines as well as the visible transmission line elements relating to wastewater, electricity, natural gas, district heating, district cooling, anergy and lake water, drinking water and communication. Simply order the transmission line cadastre using the city of Zurich’s web portal (in German) or from us directly: planauskunft@ewz.ch. We are happy to provide you with further information about ewz infrastructure as well.
We can also provide you with information about the lines running through public and private land. The layout of the lines within a property (building) must be discussed with the property owner.
If you intend to use publicly owned land in the city of Zurich to construct buildings or systems for private purposes, you must first obtain a concession.
For information on applying for concessions, please contact the Civil Engineering Department (TAZ) at Tiefbauamt Stadt Zürich (TAZ), Fachstelle Konzessionen, Werdmühleplatz 3, 8001 Zurich, phone +41 (0) 44 412 24 99, taz-konzessionen@zuerich.ch.
If your plans impact ewz infrastructure, the Civil Engineering Department will require a statement from us. For this we require a cadastre plan with the submitted construction project and the existing ewz infrastructure as well as the corresponding floor plans and sections. Please send these documents in PDF format to planauskunft@ewz.ch.
Once we have processed them (two to four working days), we will contact you. You can pick up your documents, or we will send them to you via email or by post. Once you are in possession of all necessary statements, you can submit your request to the Civil Engineering Department (TAZ).
