The solar panels on the roofs of the Herzogenmühle school building are part of our ewz.solarzüri public participation programme.
The school building in Schwamendingen, Zurich, was built in the 1950s and houses around 15 school classes and 30 teachers. The project is an example of how customised solar panels can also be successfully installed on listed buildings. Our system meets the strict architectural conservation objectives and complies with the requirements of the Swiss ‘Federal Inventory of Heritage Sites of National Importance’.
We created a classic rooftop system with fully black monocrystalline modules to take into consideration the elements requiring protection. Most of the modules face south and are arranged in such a way as to give a hint of the tiled roof underneath. The total output is 158 kWp and the energy yield is around 150 MWh per year.
Under the ewz.solarzüri public participation model, a total of 1,300 tenants, property owners and SMEs in the city of Zurich have made individual investments in the Herzogenmühle solar power plant. In return for their investment of CHF 250 per m², they receive a credit note worth 80 kWh per square metre purchased over 20 years.
