‘Working for an environmentally friendly energy company makes me feel good.’
Emilia, Head of Planning
Emilia is an engineer at ewz in the Grisons. She’s helping to digitalize the company and is proud to be supplying Switzerland with renewable energy. And she also enjoys living in such great natural surroundings.
‘What many people don’t know is that ewz has been producing green electricity in the Grisons for over 100 years. The 14 hydropower plants in central Grisons, in Bergell and by the Limmat river supply the city of Zurich with renewable energy. My office is at the company building in Sils im Domleschg. This is where the central maintenance planning takes place for all ewz hydropower plants.
I’m leading a new team. We’re responsible for the digitalization of ewz’s planning and maintenance, so that we can make even better use of the potential offered by hydropower. This means we’re combining the old world with the new – an exciting process that requires good communication and plenty of time. Many of my colleagues have worked here for what seems like an eternity, so need to be introduced to the new technologies carefully.
When I visit the power plants, I feel a strong sense of connection to the company. The atmosphere is less top-down, which creates great opportunities for development. And I love living and working in these fantastic natural surroundings.
The deciding factor in my taking this job three years ago was the ‘know-why’, understanding the meaning behind the work: I’ve been wanting to save the world since I was a teenager. Working for an environmentally friendly energy company is important to me and makes me proud. Something else makes me feel good here: the family-friendly and extremely flexible working conditions. Since we’ve had our two children, I’ve been able to reduce my hours to 0.8 FTE but still retain my management role. As a manager, I was able to have six months of maternity leave in total. That’s what I call a modern employer! This is the right place for me.’
